Ikat is a weaving technique that involves resist dyeing the yarns before they are woven into fabric. The threads are tied in specific patterns and images prior to the dyeing process. This technique is considered one of the most challenging forms of weaving, demanding meticulous precision at every stage of production to achieve the intended designs and motifs. Fifty pieces were created for the ‘Ikats of Central Asia’ exhibition held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 2009.
